ABOUT THE PROJECT

THE STANDARD
FOR JOURNALISM
ACCOUNTABILITY.

Journalism is essential to democracy, and integrity includes responsibility, accuracy, and awareness of impact.

We apply rigorous analytical inquiry to journalism itself, examining how reporting practices, narrative framing, and editorial choices shape public understanding and lived experience.

OUR FRAMEWORK

Three ways to see the story.

We study journalism from three distinct vantage points, each illuminating a different dimension of how news is made, consumed, and experienced.

I

JOURNALIST LOGO

The Reporter's Craft

Examining reporting practices, editorial choices, and narrative framing. This looks at how journalists shape the stories they tell and the tools they use to tell them.

II

SUBJECT LOGO

The Subject's Experience

Centering the people inside the stories by documenting how coverage  affects lives, families, and communities in ways that rarely make it back into print.

III

AUDIENCE LOGO

The Audience's Understanding

Building media literacy by helping readers assess information presentation, recognize framing patterns, and engage more critically with the news.

OUR PRINCIPLES

What we stand for and what we don't.

We study impact - thoughtfully and transparently.

We examine reporting styles, narrative patterns, and how stories affect individuals, families, and communities.

We do not look to shame, accuse, or adjudicate intent.

Our work is constructive and data-driven. We create space for dialogue.

We are not politically driven.

We do not evaluate truth claims or assign political fault. Our methodology is ideologically neutral by design.

We open space for all three perspectives.

Reporters reflect on their work.

Subjects reflect on their coverage

Audiences assess the presentation of information.

We are 100% volunteer. We do not receive payment for our data or analysis.

This project creates space for understanding between journalists, the people inside the stories, and the audiences who rely on both.
